RECORD ANCHORS

album · vinyl · brand

The record for Squeeze: Trixies yields three coordinates specific to its premise—album, vinyl, and brand. That vocabulary places creation at the center and gives creation its dominant tension. It establishes a documentary baseline, not a borrowed score; criticism must still ask what the form does with that material.

Squeeze: Trixies brings creation into contact with creation through cinematic narrative. That intersection is our Fresh Take: judge the premise less by its familiarity than by how precisely that combination makes its conflict legible. The existing editorial note adds this view: A strong, singular piece of cinema driven by genuine directorial conviction.

Squeeze: Trixies (2026) arrives with the coordinates of a cinema film situated in 2020s cinema. The record credits the documented direction with the direction and places Simon Hanson and Stephen Large in the foreground. With an unusually compact form, the useful question is not to invent an invisible intention, but to notice how these documented choices shape audience expectations before the first frame.

Read as cinematic narrative, the film carries the pressure of creation. Creation is not merely an outcome to admire; it becomes labor, discipline, and sometimes a strategy for surviving the gaze of others. The most precise critical test is therefore the human cost of the creative act beyond its result. Categories help audiences find a work, but they can also limit attention. This reading keeps the label at a distance long enough to see how the film builds its own logic and which expectations it chooses to displace.

The counterpoint reads the work less as pure expression than as the place where the artist arranges what cannot be said directly. Instead of asking whether the film confirms the expected story of creation, the sharper question is whether it changes the person, place, or institution with the power to define it. Moving beyond the obvious means locating the tension that turns familiar elements into a particular voice.

THE VERDICT, REFRAMED

The wager: let the work reveal its coherence before classifying it. Here, creation changes meaning under the pressure of creation.

THE DOCUMENTARY STARTING POINT

We are excited to announce Squeeze’s first album of brand new music in 8 years: Trixies. Although ‘brand new’ may not be entirely appropriate; written by the teenage Chris Difford (19) and Glenn Tilbrook (16) at the very start of their songwriting partnership, when concept albums and rock operas were de rigueur, the songs are a collection of stories set in a fictional night club, Trixies. Out on 6 March, 2026, the album will be available on black heavyweight vinyl, transparent pink vinyl, a limited edition transparent red vinyl, standard CD, plus an enhanced 2CD + Blu-ray edition with the album, a second CD of the original Trixies demos, plus a Blu-ray of 24-bit HD audio masters, and the album mixed by Bob Clearmountain in Dolby Atmos format.
